Structured phonics, played as card games

The trugs Card Table brings the trugs card games to screen. Learners read and decode words to win, and teachers choose exactly which stage they practise. Every word is decodable at its stage, so learners build on what they have been taught and grow in confidence.

What is included

The three trugs card games

  • Get It, Match It and Take It, at every stage of the trugs structured phonics programme
  • Letter Sounds (Stage 0) and Levels 1, 2 and 3 (Stages 1 to 15), from simple CVC words to four-syllable words
  • Tricky Words, for the common words that are not decodable
  • Play against Trug, the computer player, or with each other

trugs desk: the teacher’s area

  • Card Packs: print any stage’s cards on your own printer, for groups, interventions and homework
  • Check It: a quick check of a learner’s decoding at the end of each Level, to decide when they are ready to move on
  • Story Bookshelf: decodable stories for all 15 stages, so learners move from single words to reading whole texts
  • Players: keep track of each learner’s stage and games
  • Cloud Table: start a table and invite learners to play together on their own devices, joining with a number or QR code

Works on your school’s devices

  • Windows and Mac: installers you can put on school computers. Once activated, the games run from the computer, connecting to the internet occasionally to check the license and collect updates. Available mid November, will be available free for school licenses
  • Chromebooks, iPads and other devices: use the web version at cardtable.trugsgames.com in the browser.
  • Updates: new content and improvements arrive over the internet as they become available, at no extra cost during your license period.

How the school license works

  • You receive one school license key with 250 activations.
  • Web version: each person signs in with their email address and adds the key once. It then works on any device they sign in on, and uses one activation.
  • Windows and Mac: the key is added once on each computer, using one activation per computer.
  • Staff and learners: use activations for staff, school computers, and learners’ own devices at school or at home. Learners can also play on a teacher’s signed-in device, or join a teacher’s Cloud Table, without using an activation.
  • Your school looks after the key and decides who and which computers to activate. Please keep the key within your school.
  • The license runs for 12 months from purchase. We will remind you before it ends; renew to keep the same key working for another year.

After you buy

Your license key and the download links for the Windows and Mac installers are in your order confirmation email and in My Account. Windows and Mac installers will become available from mid November 2026. Short videos show how to use each game and the trugs desk. Remote training for your staff can be arranged if you would like it; a separate charge may apply.

Letter Sounds and Level 1 are free to play at cardtable.trugsgames.com, with no key needed. Sign in with your school email for a free 30-day trial of everything, then add your school license key to carry on.
