Description
trugs Stage 0 introduces the first letter sounds and leads into reading whole consonant-vowel-consonant words, for children from about 3 years old. The sounds follow the Letters and Sounds order and are taught through three card games.
- Get It introduces the first letter sounds: s, a, t, p, i, n.
- Match It adds the next sounds: m, d, g, o, c, k, ck, e, u, r, h, b, f, l.
- Take It blends consonant-vowel pairs such as an, ed, id, op and un.
Once those sounds are secure, Match It and Take It combine into a final game for reading whole words such as cat and pit. Then move on to trugs Pack 1 (Stages 1-5).
How to print, cut and play
- Open the PDF. Each card’s title bar shows the stage and the game.
- Print onto thick card. We use 275 gsm, stiff enough to shuffle and deal.
- Cut the cards out along the crop marks with a paper trimmer, so they are all the same size.
- Sort them into the three games by border colour: Get It (green), Match It (pink) and Take It (yellow), each with its Explanation Card.
- Put a band round each game and keep them in a box.
